The snow is melting and spring is in the air!

We would like to use this opportunity to invite you all to our

Annual Hovawart Spring Meeting & Dog Show!

Date: June 22nd to 24th 2012

Location: Beautiful Saratoga Springs Area

@ Moroski Residence

9 Brookstone Drive

Greenfield Center, NY 12833

The event site is located in the beautiful Saratoga Springs Area in Greenfield Center, NY on a private property (please bring your own chairs!). There will be lots of shade trees around the ring, but you may bring first-up tents if you desire.

In the neighborhood are two wooded trails available for walking your dogs. One trail is a 15 minute loop that comes back to the street. There is a lake adjacent to this trail.  The other trail takes a little over 1 hour. It is a gentle, rambling trail through the woods with creeks along the way (there may be mud ).

You may let your dogs off leash on these trails!!

We are very pleased to announce, that we were able to allure Mr. Josef Jais of RZV Germany, to judge the upcoming Show and Temperament Test, as well as to instruct the tracking training. Mr. Jais is not only a very experienced Hovawart Specialty judge. He is also a performance judge for all three Schutzhund disciplines (tracking, obedience and protection). He has successfully handled several dogs to the highest level in each discipline. In addition, Mr. Jais bred his first Hovawart litter in 1977 and is breeder of the Hovawart kennel “von den Bajuwaren”!

Schedule of Events

Friday, June 22nd  -  Tracking Training

This year we would like to start the meeting with a day full of tracking! The training seminar is intended for both, beginners and advanced trackers.

Tracking is a very enjoyable dog-sport for our Hovawarts!

It is mentally very stimulating and it gives our Hovawarts a job-to-do which they need so dearly! The nice thing about tracking is that you will be able to do it almost anywhere and anytime. You won’t need special equipment and you won’t need other people around you.

Get started with this wonderful dog sport at the seminar!

Friday, June 22nd  -  Meet & Greet Reception, 7pm

Come and join us for a Meet & Greet! A light fare and drinks will be served.

Saturday, June 23rd  -  Hovawart Specialty Conformation Show

The conformation show is open to all Hovawarts with HCNA, FCI, AKC and UKC papers. Hovawarts without papers are welcome to start in the spay/neuter class!

Please refer to the attached registration form for available classes. If you are not sure, if your dog’s papers are eligible to participate in the official classes, don’t hesitate to contact us at hovawartclub@yahoo.com.

Sunday, June 24th  -  Temperament Test

The Temperament Test is open to all Hovawarts.

Minimum age for the Full Adult Temperament Test is 12 months. The Full Adult Temperament Test counts towards breeding status!

For younger dogs, or those which are not quite ready, we offer a Junior Temperament Test starting from 6 months old to 18 months old.

AKC Canine Good Citizen Test

If you are interested to take this test, please arrange with Nancy Rutkowski directly. You can reach Nancy at nancy2802@aol.com

Lunches and Dinner

On Saturday we will be treated to a German Lunch from the Host’s German friends Katrin & Thomas. Grilled Brats and Wieners with authentic German mustard, Rotkraut, Sauerkraut and other wonderful German dishes will be served. The lunch will be offered for 15$ per adult and 6$ per child.

For Friday and Sunday please bring your own lunch!

The Saturday evening dinner will be at a local restaurant. The order will be “a la carte” and will be at the attendee’s expense. The restaurant will be moderately priced – entrees will be under $ 20!

We would appreciate, if you could let us know, how many adults/kids will join us for dinner. Please mark this at the appropriate line on the registration form.

The club will provide sodas and drinks throughout the event

Things to do in the area:

There is a lot to see and do in the Saratoga Springs area. The city is a nice place to walk and shop. Many parks are in the area, including the Saratoga Spa Park. Also many mineral springs are in the area where the Victorians came to “take the cure.” To this day, you can arrange a spa day or just a massage.

If you venture out a little more, the Lake George area is beautiful. Vicky Moroski, our event host suggests a ride of the Lake George Steamships. Morning cruises or dinner cruises are a perfect way to relax.

If hiking is your thing, the Adirondacks have thousands of trails for you to explore.  Closer to the show, the Moreau State Park and the Saratoga National Historical Park and Battlefield Museum are very interesting and dog friendly!

If you wish to kayak before or after your stay, there are more than 25 pristine lakes within an hour’s drive. If you want a little more adventure, there are many white water outfitters for kayaking or rafting!

This area is an outdoor paradise, and Vicky will be happy to suggest things to do and places to visit. You can contact her at 1-518-893-0377 or send her an email to ski2moro@me.com
