Hovawart Club of North America
All approved HCNA breeders breed only in accordance with the FCI Hovawart Breed Standard and obey the HCNA Breeding Regulations.
The HCNA sets high standards for breeding! There are very high requirements on health, sound temperament and appearance for breeding stock! This is only achieved through strict breeding regulations. The Breeding Director and the Breeding Committee oversee and approve all HCNA breedings.
A main goal is to reduce the occurrence of hereditary diseases, such as hip dysplasia and hypothyroidism. In considering approval of a breeding the Breeding Director and Breeding Committee consider not only the quality of the breeding stock, but also the quality of the already existing offspring and close relatives.
If you would like to receive further information on the HCNA Breeding Program or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Breeding Director.
Breeding does not mean to produce cute little puppies, it means to at least maintain the quality of the breed with the goal of improving the quality of the breed in all aspects. Striving towards the perfect picture of a Hovawart as it is described in the breed standard. Because this is what we consider a “real” Hovawart – in health, temperament and appearance!
