Hovawart Club of America was formed in 1995 to promote responsible breeding of Hovawarts in the USA.

The objectives of the Club are:

  1. To work towards the perfection of the natural qualities of the Hovawart breed.
  2. To promote the Hovawart breed in the United States by supporting breeding programs that comply with the breed standards as set down by German Hovawart breed clubs recognized by Verband für das deutsche Hundewesen (VDH).
  3. To conduct, oversee, or approve breeding tests for any U.S. Hovawart seeking breeding status.
  4. To oversee and assist in breedings of and to approved Hovawarts.
  5. To register puppies born to approved Hovawarts in the United States, and to provide official registration papers in support thereof.
  6. To conduct sanctioned matches and specialty shows.
  7. To do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed, and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, and obedience/schutzhund trials.
  8. To encourage the organization of local chapters of the Club in those localities where there are sufficient fanciers of the breed.
